Crane Rail Clips
Similar to conventional train rail tracks, crane rails require a fixing device—rail clip. Typically, these are crane rail clips or rail clamps for cranes. Crane clips are specialized fastening components for crane rail systems. Their primary function is to securely fasten the crane rail to the supporting structure while allowing for proper adjustment within a certain precision range.

Common crane rail clips are constructed from ductile iron and a full set of cast steel. The complete structure primarily consists of a top cover, base, high-strength bolt assembly, adjustment plate, and washers. Compared to rigid clips, flexible rail clips effectively absorb shock and reduce vibration, while also distributing loads more evenly, reducing crane rail wear, and simplifying maintenance. Crane clips can be categorized as either welded or bolted, depending on their fixing method.
- Welded crane rail clips are more suitable for heavy-duty, long-term rail systems in ports, large-scale metallurgical projects, and heavy industry.
- Bolted crane rail clips are more suitable for medium- to light-duty, adjustable, temporary rail systems, and renovation projects.
Welded Crane Rail Clip
To install a welded crane rail clip, the base plate of the crane rail clip module is welded directly to the steel foundation (usually a steel sole plate). After welding, the clip body is bolted to the base plate and secured to the rail. This type of connection provides strong overall rigidity, long-term stability, and resistance to loosening. However, installation of a welded crane rail clip requires specialized welding skills and qualifications, and requires high-quality steel for the rail foundation.

Advantages of welded crane rail clips
- The crane clips offer a stable structure and strong impact resistance, making them suitable for applications with high loads and frequent operation.
- Welded crane clips eliminate the need for drilling holes in the crane rail base during installation, effectively minimizing damage to the steel section.
- Maintenance requirements are minimal.
Common applications:
- Large ports, gantry cranes, and heavy-duty portal cranes.
- Large metallurgical plants, docks, and other long-term fixed track systems.
Bolted Crane Rail Clip
A bolted crane rail clip is bolted directly to pre-embedded steel plates or concrete anchors in the foundation. The bolt holes are typically slotted, allowing for fine-tuning of the track gauge. Installation does not require specialized welding, making it relatively quick.

Advantages of bolted crane rail clips
- Bolted crane rail clips are easy to install, adjust, and remove, and allow for fine-tuning of track gauge.
- They are not subject to welding heat and are suitable for pre-formed crane rail foundations or those where welding is not possible.
- Damaged fasteners can be quickly replaced on-site.
Common Applications:
- Industrial bridge cranes and small to medium-sized gantry cranes.
- Temporary track systems that require regular movement or replacement.
- Modifying or adding to track systems (e.g., where welding to the original foundation is not possible).
